Theme of the Conference: European Year of the Volunteer

This Conference hosted by the Irish Countrywomen's Association is administered by ACWW and open to all paid up members of ACWW (ACWW Office sets the Agenda)

This is a very prestigious event and ICA is honoured to be involved. This is an ideal opportunity for ICA to showcase the organisation. It is intended to mount an exhibition of our Arts & Crafts at this time, 2011 is also the Year of the Craft. We would be delighted if ICA members attend and experience the work of ACWW.

Europe Area Conference, Dublin, April 4-8, 2011: Contrary to some earlier information, the conference will be held in Dublin, at Bewley's Hotel. This will enable us to host more delegates.

The theme for the conference is volunteering, to honour the European Commission's European Year of Volunteering.

More than 100million Europeans engage in voluntary activities and make a difference ot our societies. A Eurobarometer survey in 2006 revealed that three out of 10 Europeans claim to be active in a voluntary capacity and that close to 80 per cent feel that voluntary activities are an important part of democratic life in Europe.

There will also be a general have your say' part, for discussion concerning ACWW business. The Irish ladies have created a fantastic programme, offering something to every one of us.

Refer to the Irish Countrywomen's Association website for further information.

Resolutions and recommendations: If your society is planning to bring a resolution to the conference, please let me know by February 1, 2011, so that we can reserve time for discussion and eventual voting.

Conference sponsorship: If you wish to make a donation to the European Sponsorship Fund, please send your remittance drawn in favour of ACWW, clearly marked as a donation to the sponsorship fund, to:

Account: Associated Country Women of the World

Account number: 01244108

Branch: Westminster

Bank: National Westminster Bank, 57 Victoria Street, London SW1H 0HP

Swift code: NWB KGB 2L

IBAN number: GB67NWBK 56003301244108

Sponsorship applications: I hope to receive applications for sponsorships from member societies that are not able to finance the conference fee themselves. Kindly send in an application of maximum one page, preferably by email to merja.siltanen@martat.fi, with a copy to terhi.lindqvist@martat.fi or by mail addressed to ACWW, The Martha Association/Area Conference, Finland, Lapinlahdenkatu 3 A 00180, Helsinki, Finland.

All applications should be in by November 1, 2010. Please state the name of the person, her possible position in the member society, the name of the member society, its ACWW membership number, justification for sponsorship and whether the applicant or the society have been sponsored to ACWW conferences before. It is also helpful if you can indicate a European ACWW member association/person for reference with whom you have already been cooperating in ACWW business.

Advent in Prague, December 2-5, 2010: The Advent in Vienna event has been very popular among our members. This year we have a chance to get to know Prague's Advent festivities. An unofficial International Meeting for European Countrywomen will be organised during the weekend. There is still time to make reservations, email schreiner@gerberghaus.at for further information.

Best wishes,

Merja Siltanen, ACWW Europe Area President.
